Lauren had grown accustomed to the quiet knocks on her front door. Habit dictated that she locked it thoroughly at night, so it always took sixty seconds to unlock the door. As Lauren quickly slipped the bolts from their locks and allowed the clicking mechanism to release, she pictured Bo injured on the other side, bleeding out. The feverish speed with which she jammed the last lock reflected the uncomfortable pit of fear growing in her stomach.
"Bo," Lauren breathed with relief as Bo stood on the doormat, completely conscious and with no blood-dripping wounds. "Are you alright?"
"Not really," Bo admitted with a slight grimace, clutching her shoulder. Lauren quickly ushered her girlfriend in, closing the door, locks forgotten. Bo sat down on the couch heavily.
"What happened?" Lauren asked as she settled down next to Bo and carefully peeled away Bo's hand from the cut. Bo sighed half-heartedly, wincing as Lauren expertly prodded the area around the cut, relieved to see that the blood had clotted and the cut wasn't that deep.
"There was another Morag," Bo admitted with a tired sigh. "It sort of caught me unawares." Lauren grimaced apologetically.
"It will heal," she promised.
Bo smiled weakly. "I'm sort of tired actually,” she admitted. Lauren's alarm bells immediately started ringing.
"Really?" she asked, taking Bo's face in her hands and quickly running a check. There was normal pupil dilation and Bo quickly managed to focus on Lauren's eyes, though she blinked heavily. "Do you have a concussion?" Lauren asked, holding up a finger and watching Bo's eyes follow it as she ran it left to right. Bo's eyes followed the finger easily.
"I don't think so," Bo sighed, leaning against the sofa cushion. Lauren pulled Bo towards her affectionately.
"You know, we could do something crazy,” she whispered into Bo's hair as the succubus settled onto her shoulder.
"What?" Bo murmured, curious.
"We could let your arm heal naturally for a night,” Lauren suggested. Bo chuckled.
"That would be crazy,” she agreed with a smirk, nuzzling Lauren's neck. Lauren kissed the crown of Bo's hair.
"Shall I get some gauze and anti-septic just for the night?" she offered. Bo hummed in displeasure.
"Don't leave," she whispered. "I'm so comfortable right now." Lauren chuckled again. The doctor within her knew that leaving the cut like that would probably prove healthy, but she also knew that spending the night on the couch would just lead to sore limbs.
"Fine, but we're going to bed."
"Only if you insist, doctor," Bo grinned, sitting up slowly. Lauren got up and extended her hand to Bo, who gratefully accepted it and stood up. Lauren didn't step away and carefully kissed her girlfriend.
"I'm glad you're okay," she whispered, lacing her fingers through Bo's. Bo's eyes fluttered closed as she smiled.
"I try,” she joked. Lauren grinned and led Bo to her bed.
